Masters Update

Go Back
  • 28th October 2016

We are aware that Masters are now asking members to elect between the job they have been offered and a redundancy.  In some cases, members may wish to accept the redundancy payment and if so they should go ahead and make that election.  In other cases, the member may take the view that the job offered at Woolworths is an acceptable alternative job (ie similar rate of pay and no additional hardships with traveling to work) and in those cases, the member will no doubt elect to take that job.

However, we are aware of a number of cases where the member is of the view that the job offered is, by virtue of significantly reduced pay and/or other factors such as travel, not acceptable but the member does not want a redundancy.  The SDA National Office is seeking to engage Masters on these issues with a view to finding an acceptable outcome for members.  However, we are aware that there is a time limit for making your election.  As such, if you are in this situation, our advice is to accept the position offered noting that you believe the job is not acceptable alternative employment.

The SDA will then continue to engage with Masters on the subject.  If we are unable to resolve the matter prior to the closure of Masters, you will have the option to revert to a redundancy payment or, alternatively, continue in the new role but request that the SDA pursue an additional payment on your behalf.  We believe we have grounds for taking this course of action through Fair Work.  In the interim, if you have any queries, please contact Craig Dunne on 9221 4321.
