Today Ferrier Hodgson, the Receivers for Dick Smith Electronics, announced to employees it will be closing down Dick Smith Electronics.
CLOSURE OF STORES
The SDA has been advised that attempts to find a commercially viable sale of the business have been exhausted and the Receivers have had no other choice but to close down the business.
Operations will be ceased in a controlled closure of stores over the next eight weeks. Over this period employees will be given notice of their date of termination.
STANDING BY YOU
The SDA will stand by you in what may be a difficult time for you and your family. As an SDA member, you are entitled to a number of services and benefits that can assist you in this time. This includes industrial advice on your entitlements, legal advice and financial advice.
EMPLOYEES TO RECEIVE ALL ENTITLEMENTS
The SDA has been advised by the Receivers that they are expecting all employee entitlements to be paid in full. Wages earned during the closure period will be paid in the normal pay run. Annual leave and long service leave accrued since 4 January 2016 will be paid on termination.
Redundancy payments, payment in lieu of notice and leave entitlements accrued prior to 4 January 2016 will be paid once claims are processed. The review of claims is likely to take around another two months after the closure is complete.
